I've been a Mac Fanboy since 1984 (when I ran back from the kitchen to see what the hell was that commercial playing on the SuperBowl), but I have to say, Windows Phone 7 is one very fine interface. Here's a video that every designer, interactive or not, should watch to understand the cutting edge of design today. The beauty is this: Windows has always been a horrible experience when compared to Apple, but the people at Microsoft have discovered the value and power of great user experiences while designing Windows Phone 7. The discovery is fresh for them, and in this video they lay it all out. I'm using it as a refresher course, a reminder of what to pay attention to, of how to think when designing. Thanks Microsoft.
Crowdsourcing isn’t evil, it just is. In much the same way newspapers, music, and TV have radically changed, Crowdsourcing is the graphic design industry being transformed by the Internet. And like newspapers, music, and TV, graphic design will never be the same.
Instead of wringing our hands, designers should ask “what new opportunities are being created by the forces killing the old model?” There are new opportunities: the same network that connects clients to thousands of designers willing to do spec work also connects a designer to a global market. All we need to do is imagine the possibilities and get busy.
